An image link is an image that when clicked on takes you to another page (either on that site or to another), much like a text link, sometimes it (with the right image) it can enhance the website whereas other times it makes it a little confusing.
The BBC website has many image links, they help the viewer to see what they story is about with having to read the title if your looking for something particular. This is an effective use of an image link.
Another example of an image link used on a website is the official Pepsi site, this lets you click on the image to be taken to a different part of the website yet it is a little confusing as some of the images on this page flip over to revile writing, which is a little confusing and I think this is a little ineffective.
Another example of this would be Pinterest, a site where people upload photos and guides to nearly everything you can think of, when you click on the image link it lets you see the same image used as the image link but a much larger version of it. iI think that this is an effective use of an image link on a website.
