After opening Adobe Flash I used the Brush tool to create an image, I the clicked on frame 100, selected the image, went to Insert, Timeline and Keyframe, moved it off the white screen. I then selected the frames 1, held down shift and 100, selected Timeline and Create Motion Tween, i then went to File, Export Movie and saved the file as an animated GIF. With Flash the image is made of vector graphics so you can get a smoother line no matter how much you zoom in and out because it is made from shapes instead of pixels.
The GIF above is the end result of my attempt at a very simple animation.
